When the clock says noon — where is the sun?

Almost certainly not overhead.

The Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich, England — chosen in 1884 by a committee, for the convenience of the British Navy. Every time zone on Earth is measured from that single political decision. The sun was not consulted.

The problem

"Noon" should mean one thing: the sun at its highest point.

In Atlanta, Georgia, the sun reaches its highest point at approximately 1:37 PM Eastern Time in summer. The clock says it is afternoon. The sun says it is noon. They disagree by 97 minutes.

This is not a small rounding error. It is a systematic distortion — and it affects every city on Earth that does not happen to sit at the center of its political time zone.

The cause

Political time zones are too wide — and anchored to the wrong meridian.

Each of the current 37 time zones varies in width — some spanning 15 degrees, others using half-hour or quarter-hour offsets — theoretically. In practice, zones have been stretched and bent to follow national borders, railroad schedules, and trade relationships. China — which spans five natural time zones — observes a single clock.

And all of it is measured from Greenwich. A line drawn through a Royal Observatory in suburban London that was chosen because the British Navy already used it. Not because it made solar sense.

The fix

Move the Prime Meridian to 180° — the central Pacific. Let the sun be noon.

The Terran Meridian relocates TM-0 to 180° longitude — the center of the Pacific Ocean, where the International Date Line already runs. From there, 24 zones of exactly 15° each radiate eastward around the globe.

In a Terran Meridian zone, solar noon is always within 30 minutes of the clock reading 12:00. In the current system, solar noon can be up to 3 hours from the clock's noon.

The argument is geometric. The sun does not move for committees.

The current system has 37 time zones that vary in width from 7.5° to over 60°, bend to follow borders, and shift seasonally for daylight saving in some countries but not others.

The Terran Meridian has 24 zones of exactly 15°, numbered TM-0 through TM-23, anchored to the Pacific, with no daylight saving, no political exceptions, no drift.
