THE TERRAN SERIES
Document I · The Foundation · Lee-Kah Williams 2026

Life is coherence that has learned to write itself into time.

Every system for organizing time — every calendar, every clock, every zodiac — was built in the Northern Hemisphere. For half the human population, time has always been someone else's story.

This is what happens when you start over.

The question that started everything:

"What is life?"

Not as a biological question. Not as a metaphysical question. As a structural one. What is the thing that life does — that non-life does not do — at the most fundamental level?

The answer arrived slowly, and then all at once.

The precursor conclusion — the first arrival:

"Coherence and life are the same phenomenon,
seen from different distances."

Life does not merely have coherence — it is coherence at a particular scale of observation. From far enough away, a cell and a storm are both coherent systems. From close enough, only one of them writes itself forward.

The distinction is not complexity. It is the capacity to persist by encoding — to leave a record that shapes what comes next.

The proposition — the final form:

"Life is coherence that has learned
to write itself into time."

This is not a metaphor. It is a structural description. Every living system — from a cell to a civilization — maintains itself by encoding its pattern into the future. DNA is writing. Culture is writing. A calendar is writing.

Which means: the calendar you use is not neutral. It is a record written by someone, for someone, encoding their pattern of time into yours.

The Terran Series asks what happens when you rewrite it from the ground up — from the planet itself, not from one hemisphere's experience of the planet.

The Gregorian calendar was codified in 1582, in Rome, by a Pope, for a Christian Europe experiencing Northern Hemisphere seasons.

It has been running the world's time ever since. Eight billion people organize their years around a document that has never been revised for the hemisphere they live in.

The Terran Series does not argue with the Gregorian calendar. It builds something else entirely — anchored to physical absolutes, not to one civilization's administrative history.

The proposition is not spiritual. It is not ideological. It is geometric. The Earth returns to the March equinox every year with absolute precision. That is the anchor. Everything else follows.
