Kinesis revives one of humanity’s oldest timekeeping traditions — the variable light hour — with a precision and philosophical grounding the ancient world did not have. The Romans and Greeks divided daylight into 12 temporal hours whose duration changed with the season: longer in summer, shorter in winter. Medieval monasteries used canonical hours from sunrise to sunset for the same reason. Both systems were eventually abandoned because their variable units were inconvenient for coordination. Kinesis does not abandon the insight — it completes it.
The day’s light is divided into 10 Phases, each Phase into 100 Moments, each Moment into 100 Pulses — 100,000 Pulses from sunrise to sunset. The duration of one Pulse is derived directly from cos(H) = −tan(φ) × tan(δ) — the spherical trigonometry of the sphere itself. The pulse breathes with the year: its rate of change is the Kairos signal made tangible. What the ancients intuited about counting light rather than clock time, Kinesis states precisely and measures honestly.
Every other clock runs through the night as if nothing has changed. Kinesis stops at sunset and restarts at sunrise. The night is not a continuation of the day.
